"Call that a knife?!"

Europeans are whimps. Particularly when it comes to their children learning essential life skills, such as using knives or other invaluable equipment such as scissors, axes and the like. Parents purposfully drive their children to the edge of frustration making them do stupid things like cutting paper with useless plastic scissors or eating steak with nothing but a blunt knife with a Mickey Mouse picture on it (How is that going to help!?).

Not so in Vanuatu. Overhere parents just let their kids get on with it: from an early age they are using the right tool for the right job. And judging by the amount of ni-Vanuatu children and adults in full possession of their all limbs and fingers, there really is no reason to keep torturing innocent European kids by making them use nonsensical plastic implements that will only delay their skill in using the real thing. (...Hm, perhaps a little childhood frustration breaking through the surface here...?)

Anyway, to prove my point I have decided to dedicate a new series to 'little kids with whopping big knives'. First in this series: my lovely neighbour Telmée.

Wauw! Dat is inderdaad niet kinderachtig. Maar of ik nu de kinderen ook met de Opinelmessen zal laten rondlopen....
