Payday

Rugby is a great sport. Anyone interested in practising their scrum-technique should come to Lakatoro bank on a Friday. Every other Friday is (government) payday in Vanuatu. This draws great crowds to the bank, which stays open for an extra hour to serve all the customers.


The staff of the National Bank (my bank) are some of the friendliest bank tellers I have ever met anywhere. Not just in my local Lakatoro branch, but the Vila branch as well. It is always a pleasure to go. I guess in their job adds they include requirements such as: 'Must have great, charming smile', 'Must be friendly and patient' and not to forget: 'Must be former All Black'
