Zero and counting

Yesterday I turned 40. I wish I had something profound to say about it. But I don't. Too tired I guess from all the com- and emotion of the past few days. My mother did, so I'll share her birthday wish with you:

40 jaar geleden: nog geen 6 pond en 48 cm. groot!
En kijk nou eens: 'n mooie jonge vrouw die op het punt staat grootse
dingen te gaan doen
Lieve schat, bij alle emotie's neemt trots 'n grote plaats in.
Dikke kussen en tot morgen!

So here's a profound thought after all: turning 40 doesn't necessarily stop your mother from using the diminutive on you.
Ah well.
