- moodflash -- moodflash -

Just got back from the Opera House: WOW, what an adventure! The last movement of that symphony was so powerful I thought we would be sailing off into Darling Harbour, orchestra and all. The orchestra had 8 horns, 8 double basses and no less than 6 percussionists, one of which was beatinmg the side of his drum with a bunch of twigs every so often and 4 of them had to shake a couple of cow bells several times! Talk about getting a lot of bang for your buck . I never even wanted to wave to the conductor (who incidently is to be the new Music Director of the Rotterdam Philharmonic) to tone it down a little - and that is saying something.

Fair dinkum!
"Wouldn't you simply die without Mahler?"
(as blurted out by Maureen Lipman in Willy Russell's 'Educating Rita')
